Kendo is the Japanese Way of the Sword. The All Japan Kendo Association defines Kendo as "the emergence of human character through the practice of the principles of swords".
Here at Brown, we are a group of students searching for our way of the sword. Our practices are completely student-led. We participate in annual tournaments along the east coast of the U.S., and as a team, we seek excellence together.
Our members practice Kendo for different reasons. Some are here as an expression of their cultural heritage. Some are here to develop their skills and compete in tournaments. Some are here for the meditative experience of this Japanese craft. Still others are here simply for a fun way to stay fit. Kendo finds a myriad of expressions at the Brown University Kendo Club.
Please note that all practices are currently remote via Zoom. Please contact our captain David Gao at dichuan_gao@brown.edu, or any other of our members, for an invitation to the Zoom Meeting.
